2011 Springfield MS Bike Run - September 17 - 18 - Join The Ride

This weekend is the annual 2011 Springfield MS Bike Run.  The 2 day event starts in Clever Missouri and ends up in Clever Missouri......isn't that clever!  The tornado in Joplin Missouri has changed the route.  Normally, the run ends up in Joplin the first day and back to Clever the second day.

Anyway, this is our 5th year (I think) to be a part of a great event.  We spend two days on a motorcycle, stopping every 2 - 3 miles, change flat tires, make sure all the people riding bicycles are ok and just have fun.  A hundred mile ride takes 6 - 8 hours. 
By the end of the second day, we're usually sunburned or frozen.  I'm told this year we are in for rain and cool weather.

Over 800 bicycles are signed up.  Only 17 motorcycles have signed up, making it more difficult to tend to all the bikers.  Got a motorcycle?  Come on down on Saturday and lend us a hand.

The 150 Year Reenactment was held at Wilson's Creek National last month.


The Battle of Wilson's Creek was the first major battle of the Civil war west of the Mississippi River. 
Fought in 1861, the battle fought between the Union forces and the Missouri State Guard where over 2500 soldiers lost their lives fighting for their cause.













Today, the battlefield is open to the public and includes a Civil War Museum.  Drive through the park and you'll see several battle grounds.  You can even ride your bike through the park.  Picnic areas are located near the museum.

For many, Labor Day Weekend is a time to get away and take some time off.  For others, it's back to work as usual.  But don't forget to remember all the men and women in the military that have given their lives to make our country safe.

For me, it was a little of both.  We started the morning watching the Ozark Mule Day parade (I'll add photos later), then came home and began our construction on our new covered deck.

In between helping my hubby, we finalized a sale on one of our listings, countered another offer, took numerous phone calls, and received notice that an offer we wrote yesterday was approved.

Deer Season In Missouri Starting In September

Missouri is a state that has an abundance of deer and this month begins deer season.

Early this morning my hubby and I was finishing breakfast, when outside I noticed two small fawns jumping and playfully scampering around in our back yard.  Before I could grab the camera, they had disappeared.  I thought that Mama Deer was probably close by.

Instead, they reappeared near our neighbor's home, along with the neighbor's Blue Heeler.  She was making sure the fawns were staying close to the home.  Looking closer, we realized the neighbors had rescued these two homeless fawns and had been feeding them and allowing them to live with their dog.  The dog has become their mother replacement.

As soon as they get a little older, they will be released back into the wild on a large farm.  The funniest thing is watching the dog and the deer play and frolic together.
Archery season for Missouri Deer begins September 15.

Start out your Labor Day Weekend with a all you can eat BBQ from 4-6 PM.  On Friday, Mule Madness starts at 7:00 PM at the Ozark park and will include mutton bustin, open barrels, pick up race, egg & spoon, dizzy bat, musical tires, wild mule catch/ride, chicken scramble, open poles, hide race, and keyhole race.

Come back on Saturday and watch the parade that ends up on the Ozark square.  More shows start at 12:00 pm and continues throughout the day.
On Sunday, Church starts at 8:00 AM with more shows beginning at 9:00 AM.
